Pellitteri
Marcello
Pellitteri, born in Italy, residing in New York City, is, in addition to
being an award winning drummer, a pianist, educator, composer, arranger
and producer. He was educated at the University of Palermo, Berklee
College of Music (Diploma of Music in Film Scoring, Cum Laude), and the
New England Conservatory of Music (Master of Music in Jazz Studies,
conferred with Distinction in Performance).
He is currently an
Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music, and has ongoing
involvement with major international music clinics.
Mr.
Pellitteri has been a member of groups lead by Jacky Terrasson, Jon
Hendricks, Miroslav Vitous, and, over the past 20 years, has performed
worldwide in festivals, television and radio programs with Slide
Hampton, Dave Samuels, Mulgrew Miller, Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman,
Paquito Dâ Rivera, Mick Goodrick, Woody Shaw, John Abercrombie, Winton
Marsalis, the Boston Pops Orchestra and others. Television appearances
include NBCs Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O Brien
and CBSs Sunday Morning.
He has
also been the drummer/percussionist of the rhumba-flamenco pop artists
GIPSY KINGS.
Currently
he is playing with Grammy Award winners vocalists New York Voices.
Mr.
Pellitteri has recorded extensively and has received enthusiastic
acclaim. Among his over forty recordings are Trio (Projazz), with Aydin
Esen and Eddie Gomez; 6x6 (King Records), with Royce Campbell, John
Abercrombie and Dave Stryker; Bohemia (Jazzpoint), with Vic Juris and
Miroslav Vitous; Sing,Sing,Sing, (Concord), with the New York Voices;
Pas An Dour (Naïve), with Celtic Tales and Michael Brecker; and My
Marilyn (Enja), with David Klein and Mulgrew Miller.
He is, as
Gary Burton put it, a wonderful musician...(one) of the most
talented...to come along in a long time.
